These photos were taken in May, 1987 when I took a week to travel to Oaxaca from Patzcuaro and visited the ruins at Monte Alban and Mitla.

Monte Alban, View from Building "H"

Building H is the large central stucture at Monte Alban, and from the top of it you have a bird's eye view of most of the rest of the site. This view is looking southeast towards "the Palace" (far left). To the right of it is the unreconstructed pyramid called Building Q. The huge South Platform is the large mound to the right.

Monte Alban, Observatory from South Platform

View of the little building called the observatory from the top Monte Alban's "south platform" structure. The current best guess is that the building was used to make astronomical observations, but no one seems quite sure.

Immediately behind the Observatory is Building H; System IV is the large pyramid and forecourt at the left of the photo.
